Buitenverwachting Painting - Winter 2020

Buitenverwachting Painting in Progress

I am painting a scene on Buitenverwachting wine farm in Cape Town in a slightly looser style than normal.  Please view the video clips and slideshow of the painting as it develops below.

A historic manor house set against the backdrop of the Constantiaberg mountains, a beautiful position shared by its’ neighbours of Klein Constantia, Groot Constantia and Constantia Uitsig to name a few of the world renowned local wine estates in the area.

Pruned back vines showing their russet brown colour, bare and stick-like waiting for warmer weather to sprout…. within a few short weeks this colour palette will change dramatically by the new, vivid green shoots of Spring.

This small painting captures the brooding mood of anticipation, a seasonal change in the air. An unusual composition with no skyline places all focus firmly on the manor house with the light imbuing the white walls with a soft, warm hue.

Inspired by many walks on these wine estates where one witnesses the beauty of the changing seasons… there is always something different to see.
